He no longer held any real power; the title of the base leader was almost meaningless, and it was likely that he would soon lose this position entirely.
Luo Yelin said, “I came hoping Tong Sui could stand up and say a few words from my perspective.”
He had come to leverage Tong Sui’s current momentum to rehabilitate his own image.
Seeing that Tong Sui remained unmoved, Luo Yelin said, “As long as you’re willing, just saying a few words would suffice. If you prefer to continue your research, I can give you the position of the research institute director.”
Tong Sui listened to the familiar words without any emotion, replying coldly, “Sorry, I don’t want to do that.”
After saying this, he pulled Jiang Hua and left.
“What do you mean?” Luo Yelin became anxious and reached out to touch Tong Sui’s shoulder, saying, “Don’t forget why you were able to enter the research institute!”
“Who allowed you to touch him?” Jiang Hua said, gripping his hand and forcefully twisting it outward.
There was a sharp crack as bones misaligned.
Luo Yelin let out a painful scream, curling up on the ground, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
He still tried to argue, “I did nothing wrong, it was Jian Lexian who was to blame.”
Tong Sui looked down at him without a trace of pity, saying coldly, “From the moment you agreed to do all this, you were not innocent. You knew the consequences of your actions.”
Luo Yelin’s heart sank.
He could only watch as the two walked away, eventually collapsing to the ground, powerless.
He couldn’t understand why things had come to this; he had the best conditions but ended up with nothing.
Tong Sui and Jiang Hua exited the research institute.
To maintain the stability of this world, he would no longer do anything to Luo Yelin, but how his ending would unfold was no longer his concern.
Tong Sui pulled his thoughts away.
Only then did he notice that as they walked, people passing by would turn to look at him openly, their gazes filled with excessive warmth and even sickly fervor that made Tong Sui uncomfortable.
He couldn’t help but think of what Jiang Hua had said: savior.
For those who had suffered for so long, such admiration and affection existed in a blind fervor.
Suddenly, he felt a warmth in his palm.
Jiang Hua held his hand, almost forcibly wrapping his entire palm with his own, pulling him into an unbearably close distance.
Tong Sui felt a sense of reassurance.
They walked home hand in hand, the warmth of their palms generating a thin layer of sweat where they touched.
Until they reached the apartment door.
When Tong Sui tried to let go of his hand, it was met with a firmer grip.
Their palms were already warm, and being held so tightly made Tong Sui’s heart race.
“Do you remember the promise we didn’t fulfill?”
Jiang Hua’s voice was the only sound in the quiet space, warm against Tong Sui’s ear.
Tong Sui knew exactly what he was referring to.
This promise, which was supposed to be fulfilled immediately, had been delayed due to his recovery and the recent zombie outbreak.
Now that his health had returned and the crisis had passed, there was no longer any reason to postpone.
Tong Sui’s heart raced a bit faster. Logically, he should be quite familiar with these matters, but even at the mention of it, he couldn’t help but turn red and feel flustered, too shy to look up at Jiang Hua’s expression, whispering, “I want to take a shower first…”
Jiang Hua said, “Let’s do it together.”
Tong Sui’s face flushed.
He had secretly been a bit envious of the large bathtub in Jiang Hua’s master bedroom, but he had always hesitated to bring it up as it was personal property. He hadn’t expected to end up using it today by coincidence.
Yet Tong Sui was even less prepared for the fact that using the bathtub was just the beginning.
Jiang Hua gently dried Tong Sui’s damp hair with a hair dryer, his well-defined fingers weaving through it, as if softly massaging him.
His technique was even more skilled than before, with just the right pressure; after such treatment, Tong Sui’s already warm cheeks turned even redder.
He let go of his few remaining defenses, feeling completely relaxed and ready to fall asleep.
Unbeknownst to Tong Sui, who had not been easily fooled in this world, this was merely a method to soothe his prey.
As he sank into the soft pillow, nearly drifting off, he became sensitive to the sound of something being pulled.
He lazily peeked over.
It was Jiang Hua opening the bedside drawer.
The hand that had just been brushing through his hair was now holding a bottle of lubricant and a square box.
All trace of drowsiness vanished, and his eyes widened.
“How did you prepare this?”
He couldn’t believe it had been sitting right beside the bed without him noticing.
The sound of Jiang Hua tearing open the packaging echoed in his ears, and Tong Sui’s already heated head felt like it was overheating.
“I specifically brought it back during the mission.”
It was evidently Jiang Hua’s first time handling such items; he frowned slightly as he awkwardly read the instructions on the back.
These characters posed a significant challenge for someone who had lived overseas for years.
Tong Sui quietly thought that he probably wouldn’t know how to use it.
Unexpectedly, in the next moment, he met Jiang Hua’s gaze and was pulled into his embrace.
Something cool, like a face wash, was pushed into his palm.
Despite its coldness, Tong Sui felt he was holding a hot potato; his instinct was to throw it away, but Jiang Hua wrapped his hand around it.
“Xiao Sui, I can’t read it,” Jiang Hua’s warm breath was unabashed, heavily landing on Tong Sui’s slightly flushed cheek. “Can you help me read it?”
Tong Sui felt overwhelmingly heated and nearly embarrassed to the core. He steeled himself and flipped to the back of the “face wash” bottle, his throat rolling awkwardly.
